The American Gem Society (AGS) appointed Peggy Campbell as associate development director. In her newly created position, Campbell will be responsible for facilitating the AGS Partnership for Excellence Capital Campaign for the AGS campus expansion project.
Diamond mining and exploration company, SouthernEra has appointed Patrick Evans as president and chief executive officer. SouthernERa is based in Canada. The company is currently seeking the necessary licensing to build a diamond mine in Angola after the completion of a positive feasibility study.

Jnet, a website connecting the jewelry industry, has named Steven Kravit CEO. The firm has appointed Caroline Stanley vice president of communications. Jnet, headquartered in Plano, Texas has formed a board of directors comprised of retailers, manufacturers and computer experts. The board is made up of John Cohen, co-CEO, Carlyle & Co; Carolyn Pope, owner Crews Jewelry; Alan Zimmer, CEO, Reeds; Peter Fuller, CEO Fuller Box; Alan Kaufman, CEO Tru-Kay; Robert Wueste, CEO Samuel Aaron; and Dan Bourgoin, Microsoft.
The Learning Channel has launched "Famous Diamonds," a one-hour television program that will air throughout 2001. The show travels the world and relates the legends and lore of the world’s most famous diamonds. The producers of the show worked closely with the Diamond Information Center and De Beers allowed the production crew full access to its mines, the DTC and several special events.
Platinum Guild International USA, Town & Country magazine and Tivol Jewels teamed up to host Milestones for Memories, a gala that raised over $200,000 for the National Alzheimer’s Association and the Mollie Tivol Alzheimer’s Family Resource Center. The evening which included dinner, dancing and donations was attended by over 900 guests including Princess Yasmin Aga Khan, the daughter of actress Rita Hayworth and spokesperson for the National Alzheimer’s Association. Clothing designer Pamela Dennis was also at the event along with 12 noted jewelry designers. The evening included a silent auction of platinum jewelry donated by several designers including Michael Bondanza, Michael B., Rudolf Erdel and Scott Kay. In addition, a Pamela Dennis dress featuring 300 carats of Lazare diamonds set in platinum was on display.
