Press Release: On January 30, Fyodor Andreev, the former president of ALROSA from 2009 to 2014, passed away.

Andreev was born in Voronezh on August 16, 1966. He is a graduate of Leningrad State University with a diploma in political economy (graduation year 1989). From 2002 to 2003, he worked as first vice president of ALROSA in charge of finance and economics. From 2003 to 2009, he held keypositions with OAO RZhD (Russian Railways). In 2009 he returned to ALROSA as president of the company and in September 2014, left his post due to medical reasons.

On behalf of the Antwerp World Diamond Centre (AWDC) and the entire diamond community we represent, we want to convey a message of our deepest sympathy to the ALROSA company upon the untimely passing of  Andreev.

Andreev will undoubtedly be remembered as a strong leader, who succeeded in reinforcing ALROSA’s leading position in the global diamond industry, not only as the world’s largest diamond producer but also, and more importantly, as center of excellence.

We have been honored to meet, during our multiple exchanges here in Antwerp, a man with a sharp knowledge and strategic insight but even more of a long-term vision for the diamond industry. But more than that: an exceptionally fine and generous human being.

At the AWDC, we hold fond memories of the many occasions on which we had the honor of meeting and collaborating with Andreev, both in Russia and Antwerp. We do not doubt Andreev will be greatly missed.

We offer the management of ALROSA our sincere condolences and wish them all the strength they need in these trying times.
