RAPAPORT... The Israel Diamond Exchange (IDE) is to kick off a ‘Rough October Fest’, hosting large numbers of rough diamond tenders and sales events during the month in the Ramat Gan diamond trading complex.

Rio Tinto, De Beers Auction Sales and Tzoffey’s 1818 are all set to hold rough diamond tenders and auctions, while a ‘Blue-White’ Diamond Dealing Day will take place in the IDE trading hall with traders offering rough diamonds for inspection and immediate sale, in addition to polished goods.

The bourse expects to hold additional sales events in October, according to a statement posted on its website.

Rio Tinto will open proceedings with its tender in the trading hall from October 11 to 15. The tender will comprise large (+10.8 carat) and fancy colored rough diamonds by means of a sealed-bid auction system.

The Tzoffey’s tender will run from October 18 to 26, with an all-African sale of 5-10 carat goods as well as specials comprising 10.5+ stones. De Beers will hold its competitive event for 5+ carat and 10+ carat goods from October 25 to 27.

IDE President Shmuel Schnitzer described the event as another building block the in the “strengthening of our manufacturing base for larger stones in Israel. We need more manufacturing of large goods as it is our specialty and we are at the top of the bill when it comes to producing fancy shapes and fancy colors. We hope to continue and bring more rough to Israel for this purpose.”
