RAPAPORT... The Israeli Diamond Pavilion will host 27 companies at the Hong Kong International Jewelry Manufacturers’ Show this month, the second time the country has taken a pavilion at the event.

Israel had a national pavilion for the first time at last year’s show, which this year will run from November 26 to 29 at the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre.

Ten companies at the pavilion will be first-timers at the show, according to a statement from the Israel Diamond Institute, which is organizing the pavilion.

The show, run by the Hong Kong Jewelry Manufacturers’ Association, will feature fine jewelry, loose diamonds, pearls and colored gemstones. It is expected to attract buyers from mainland China, Taiwan, the Philippines, Indonesia and other parts of the Asia-Pacific region, the IDI said. Its organization ahead of the holiday season means buyers often use it for last-minute purchases, it added.

The pavilion will include a computer terminal that offers both English and Chinese language capability on which visitors can search for items.

Asia is a strategic market for the Israeli diamond industry, IDI chairman Moti Ganz said in a statement. “While these markets have undergone a slowdown, they are still growing and we are optimistic about this show.”
