RAPAPORT... Mountain Province Diamonds reported the Gahcho Kué diamond mine in Canada’s Northwest Territories is on track for first production in the second half of 2016, with the project now more than 87 percent complete.

Mountain Province is a 49-percent participant in the mine together with De Beers Canada. Development is progressing according to plan, Mountain Province said in a statement March 14.

“Key areas of focus are remaining earthworks, commissioning of the primary crusher and diamond plant, pre-stripping and stockpiling of kimberlite as well as preparations for operational readiness,” Patrick Evans, Mountain Province’s president and chief executive officer, said in the statement.

The miner also said the Gahcho Kué joint venture has appointed Allan Rodel as mine general manager. Rodel joined De Beers in 1997 and had been Gahcho Kué project manager since 2013.
