RAPAPORT... The Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC) and the Alliance for Responsible Mining (ARM) renewed an agreement to strengthen their collaboration in promoting and facilitating responsible-jewelry supply chains.

ARM and RJC said they share objectives to promote responsible precious-metals supply chains and will continue working together to ensure their standards and assurance models are “mutually supportive.”

Joint goals include improving social, environmental and labor practices; enhancing relationships among large-scale mining and artisanal and small-scale mining; and increasing responsible artisanal and small-scale miners’ access to the precious metals market.

Both organizations also see “exciting” opportunities for the artisanal and small-scale mining sector’s greater participation in responsible global supply chains and said they will work with stakeholders to realize that goal.

ARM and RJC have also aligned various aspects of their assurance systems. These include allowing joint Fairmined and RJC Chain-of-Custody audits for companies who participate in both certification schemes to reduce audit burden.
