RAPAPORT... Botswana’s rough diamond exports bounced back up in July after sinking to zero a year ago, according to data from the nation’s central bank.

The country recorded $438.9 million in outbound shipments during the month from its major diamond mines, the Bank of Botswana reported. No output from these mines was sold in July 2015.

The July figure was the highest since $566.6 million in April, with exports declining sequentially to $70.3 million in May and $342.8 million in June. Outbound shipments slipped 1.8 percent to $1.8 billion in the first half of 2016 but jumped 16 percent to $979.7 million in the second quarter.
