New Synthetics Detector Works on ‘All’ Jewelry

RAPAPORT... DRC Techno launched a device for detecting synthetics which it claims is the market’s first machine that sifts out lab-grown diamonds in all types of jewelry.
‘J-Secure’ identifies synthetics from 0.003 carats to 10 carats. The basic model is designed for retail stores, while the ‘J-Secure plus’ machine is for a company’s purchase office.
Surat, India-based DRC is best known for producing D-Secure, which detects synthetics in loose diamonds. This device has helped stop the practice of mixing undisclosed lab-grown stones with natural ones, the company said. Both D-Secure and J-Secure pick up diamonds created using chemical vapor deposition (CVD) and high pressure-high temperature (HPHT), the two main methods for growing synthetic diamonds.
“After the success of D-Secure, we identified there is no such machine commercially available to scan jewelry, especially melee diamond jewelry,” a DRC spokesperson said in an email to Rapaport News.
DRC also said it launched an instrument, D-View, to detect possible HPHT diamonds by identifying stones that are phosphorescent, or give out light, when exposed to ultra-violet light.
