Christie’s Geneva Sells Pink Diamond for $18M

RAPAPORT... Christie’s netted $2 million per carat for a pink diamond
at its Magnificent Jewels auction in Geneva on Tuesday.
The pear-shaped, 9.14-carat, fancy vivid pink, VS2-clarity diamond
was sold for $18.2 million (CHF 18.1 million) to an unidentified Asian buyer,
Christie’s said.
The company set a new world record at the auction for a pair
of earrings, selling two pear-shaped, D-color, flawless diamonds designed by
Boehmer et Bassenge to an anonymous buyer for $17.6 million, or $170,000 per
carat. The diamonds weighed 52.55 carats and 50.47 carats.
Separately, a D-color diamond fringe necklace went to Harry
Winston, which also designed it. Harry Winston paid $8.3 million for the
piece, for which the largest 18 diamonds weighed a combined 128.24 carats.
Total sales at the auction stood at $97.1 million. It was sold
77 percent by lot and 82 percent by value.
