RAPAPORT...
Forevermark reached another milestone this month after a round brilliant-cut, 3.48-carat polished stone became the two-millionth diamond to be inscribed by the De Beers brand.

The diamond, which bears the serial number “2,000,000,” originated in Namibia, where manufacturer Ankit Gems Namibia cut and polished it in Windhoek, De Beers said last week.

The diamond’s laser inscription was done at the Forevermark Diamond Institute in Surat, India, and the stone will be set into jewelry at the Forevermark Design and Innovation Centre in Milan, Italy. South African designer Louise Kriek, the runner-up in De Beers’ 2015 Shining Light Awards for aspiring students, will work on the jewelry design during a three-month internship in Milan.

The final product will become part of Forevermark’s red-carpet collection, intended for celebrities to wear at major events and award ceremonies, De Beers said last week.

“Forevermark has a strong commitment to responsible sourcing, tracing each diamond along its journey and ensuring strict business, environmental and social standards are met at every step,” said Forevermark CEO Stephen Lussier.

“The fact this diamond can embark on a journey from the Orange River to a Windhoek cutter and polisher, and then across the world, ultimately to be showcased on the international stage, is a demonstration of the important role Namibia plays in the global diamond sector,” he added.

In February, De Beers announced that Forevermark had reached 2,000 retail stores globally. The milestone outlet was in the Zen Diamond Anatolium store in Bursa, Turkey. The miner launched the brand in 2008, promising high-quality and rare diamonds that are responsibly sourced.
