Grima Jewels to Lead London Auction

RAPAPORT... Bonhams will auction a collection of watches and jewelry
designed by Andrew Grima at a sale in London later this year.
The event will feature the largest private collection of the
Anglo-Italian designer’s jewels in auction history, Bonhams said Tuesday. The
55 pieces, which Grima made between the 1960s and his death in 2007, will be on
offer as part of Bonhams’ Fine Jewellery sale on September 20.
The items include a 1969 gold, citrine and diamond watch and
bangle, named “Cerini,” which the auctioneer has estimated at $19,500 (GBP
15,000) to $26,000. Also on offer is a gold and pink-tourmaline watch bangle,
called “Greenland,” which it expects will fetch $26,000 to $39,000.
Grima had a reputation as one of the 20th century’s most
imaginative designers, Bonhams said. He created jewelry for
Queen Elizabeth II, Princess Margaret, Jackie Kennedy Onassis and Bond
Girl Ursula Andress.
“We anticipate strong interest in this collection, given it
is one of the most significant and comprehensive private collections of jewels
by Grima ever to come to auction,” said Emily Barber, director of Bonhams’ jewelry
