RAPAPORT... The Gemological Institute of America (GIA) is offering more than $2 million in scholarships for its 2018 education programs, the laboratory said Monday.

Scholarships are available for online distance-learning courses and for classes at the GIA’s campuses in Bangkok, Carlsbad, Hong Kong, London, Mumbai, New York and Taiwan, as well as at the GIA branch in Dubai. The institute is accepting applications for the financial assistance until September 30.

Since 2010, the GIA — which offers classes in gemology and jewelry-manufacturing — has awarded more than $8 million in scholarships to more than 1,500 students globally, financed by an endowment fund and private donors, it said.
