Merlin Diamonds has a sold a white rough diamond from its mine in Australia for $157,880, or $11,898 per carat, it said Monday.

The 13.27-carat stone is of “very high” quality and has D color, Merlin said in a statement, claiming that, once polished, the diamond could gain the GIA’s D-flawless grade.

“This augurs well for future white-diamond production at Merlin, especially in larger sizes,” the company said.

Merlin Diamonds sources its goods from the Merlin mine in Australia, which it acquired from Rio Tinto in 2004.
