RAPAPORT...  The Diamond Bourse of Canada (DBC) will start offering in-house 4Cs grading certification and appraisal services, it said Wednesday.

Lou Berdusco (pictured), a Gemological Institute of America (GIA) graduate gemologist with more than 30 years of experience, will provide the services, which will be similar to those that major laboratories such as the GIA offer, the exchange said.

Both DBC members and non-members can send diamonds in for certification, the bourse added, although they will pay different fees. Additionally, the service is open to individual consumers who want a single stone graded, as well as for jewelry businesses and diamantaires submitting large parcels.

Customers can either bring stones directly to the bourse for grading and pick them up, or they can send and receive their diamonds by courier. The lab will open on June 4 in the center of Toronto’s diamond district.
