RAPAPORT... Dominion Diamond Mines has agreed to allow Mountain Province Diamonds to use its CanadaMark certification program.

CanadaMark assures consumers its certified diamonds originated in Canadian mines, and are natural and untreated. All diamonds produced under the program are tracked from mine to polished.

Companies who buy stones from Mountain Province’s share of production at the Gahcho Kué mine in Canada will be able to apply for CanadaMark certification, Reid Mackie, vice president of diamond marketing for Mountain Province, said last week.

“Once they are certified, our customers can confidently demonstrate the Canadian provenance of their goods and use this to enhance and support their individual branding programs,” he added. “The unique characteristics of the Gahcho Kué production will help broaden the range of certified-Canadian goods available to consumers, and consolidate market share of Canadian product under a consistent Canadian provenance standard.”

Mountain Province jointly owns the Gahcho Kué mine in partnership with De Beers.
