RAPAPORT... True North Gems Inc. has announced the start of mining
operations at the Aappaluttoq Ruby and Pink Sapphire deposit in south west Greenland.
The Canadian exploration company’s board has approved
extraction plans submitted by its joint venture partner at the mine, LNS
Greenland, according to a statement December 2. The process and gemstone
recovery system is currently being shipped to Greenland.
Extraction planned for the fourth quarter of 2015 and the
first quarter of 2016 will create a large enough stockpile of ore to feed the
plant once it has been commissioned.
The planned removal of waste rock during
this extraction will enable the 2016 mining season to commence as scheduled, according to the
company.
“During a very tough period for the mining industry with
many financial challenges, it is deeply gratifying to see everyone’s hard work
materialize and for True North’s shareholders to see mining start,” said Nicholas
Houghton, True North's president and chief executive officer.
