RAPAPORT... Mahiar Borhanjoo is set to leave Venus Jewel International to become CEO of the DFL Group, the company behind a new online polished-diamond hub.

Borhanjoo has been managing director of India-based Venus Jewel, a leading polished manufacturer and supplier, since 2015, overseeing a transformation of the company’s brand and online platform, DFL said Friday.

He previously served six years as executive director of sales and sightholder services at the Diamond Trading Company (DTC), the forerunner of De Beers’ Global Sightholder Sales division. While at De Beers, he supervised the transfer of DTC’s operations from London to Gaborone, Botswana, in 2013.

DFL launched UNI.Diamonds, an online diamond-trading platform, in October, vowing to offer online sales, financing and other services to polished suppliers and buyers. Borhanjoo will assume the new role on June 17, the company added.

“Mahiar is an exceptional business leader who has earned tremendous success throughout his career,” said Gil Melamed, a cofounder and board member at DFL. “He has led companies through transformative and progressive change, balancing the age-old legacy of diamonds with cutting-edge technology.”
