RAPAPORT... Gemological Science International (GSI) is opening its second testing center in New York dedicated to identifying undisclosed lab-grown diamonds.

The 4,200-square-foot facility on Fifth Avenue will be used to spot synthetics in loose-stone parcels and jewelry, GSI said last week. It will enable the institute to broaden the services it currently offers at the screening center it launched on West 47th Street in September 2018.

“The opening of this laboratory allows us to expand upon the extraordinary work the team at GSI is doing for the screening and detection of undisclosed lab-grown diamonds and simulants,” said GSI president Debbie Azar. “The opening of this laboratory will allow us to continue to be an innovator and help us develop methods to help protect the industry.”
