RAPAPORT... The board of Element Six, a De Beers Group company,  appointed Walter Hühn as the company's CEO, effective March 8, 2013. Huhn joined Element Six in 2008 to lead the advanced materials division and then he became director of technologies in 2011.

The company stated that Huhn transformed the advanced materials business to become a major contributor to Element Six’s revenue stream and operating profit. Under his stewardship, the technologies business experienced strong growth across all its key markets, and established a reputation for developing extreme performance application innovations in collaboration with customers. Element Six won the Queen’s Award for Enterprise in Innovation in 2012, in a joint partnership with Bowers & Wilkins (B&W), the British audio brand.

Philippe Mellier, the CEO of De Beers Group  who also serves as chair of Element Six, said, “This is an exciting time for Element Six as its synthetic diamond products continue to substitute traditional materials in abrasive applications and enable entirely new technologies and applications exploiting synthetic diamond’s electronic, thermal, optical and chemical properties. Walter’s strong technological background and established reputation with Element Six’s customers, combined with the company’s world-leading research and development and IP, its manufacturing excellence, and the highest quality and service standards in its industry, mean Element Six is well positioned to take advantage of these opportunities.”

Huhn will divide his time between London and Frankfurt, Germany and will be appointed to the De Beers Group executive committee.
