Angelina’s Jewels

By Amber Michelle
Actress, smokin’ hot beauty, mother and noted philanthropist, Angelina Jolie paired with Beverly Hills–based jeweler Robert Procop to start the Angelina Jolie Jewelry Charity Fund that supports her work to better the plight of children around the world. The two have a lengthy relationship, during which time Procop has created jewelry for Jolie for use on camera, personally and as gifts. The collaboration between the two is a part of the Education Partnership for Children of Conflict project that Jolie founded in 2006.
The high-end jewelry collection, called The Style of Jolie, is created for all who see beauty in gems and who want to give back to social causes that help support children. “The evolutionary process for these designs was captured by the use of storyboards chronicling the creative journey we took of exploring different shapes and inspiring us toward sharp dramatic lines and soft curves,” says Procop. “The selection of a tablet shape gem was initially based on the idea of engraving a stone with a message and from there it evolved into shapes that echo that symbolism.”
The gemstones are the main focus of each design and emeralds are an important part of the collection. Procop notes that a special floating bezel-type setting was created for the emeralds to protect the edges of the gems, shown right.
“We selected only the finest gems using Colombian-sourced emeralds of the highest quality,” comments Procop. “By making the gemstone the main focus of the design, we feel the simplicity of each piece becomes timeless. When you look at it, you recognize it as The Style of Jolie.”
The project has funded a recently completed two-story, all-girls schoolhouse in the Qala-i-Gudar region of Afghanistan. It is the first school built that has been funded by jewelry purchased from this collection. There are plans for a second school with a location to be selected in the coming year.
