Press Release: Rosy Blue will participate in the United Nations Global Compact Leaders’ Summit, which takes place in New York on September 19 and 20 www.leaderssummit2013.org. The theme of the Summit will be “Architects of a Better World.” The Summit will be chaired by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon. It will bring together leaders from the business world, civil society, the United Nations and governments, as well as from 100 Global Compact networks, including the Belgian network where Rosy Blue NV has taken a leadership role. The purpose of this gathering is to offer a new global concept for corporate sustainability as well as a framework for the contribution of the business world to the implementation of the Millenium Development Goals relating to children’s rights, women’s empowerment, food security, education, water and climate change, as well as of the post-2015 agenda. CHILDREN’S RIGHTS AND BUSINESS In the evening of Wednesday, September 18, Her Majesty the Queen of Belgium, will attend, together with Didier Reynders, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belgium, a panel discussion, “Children’s rights are everyone’s business,” involving Belgian and international CEOs including Amit Bhansali, the managing director of Rosy Blue NV. In the presence of Ki-moon, and under the leadership of Telenet, a member of the UN Global Compact since 2011, and of Rosy Blue, a member of the UN Global Compact since 2008, Bhansali agreed to reach out to the Belgian business world. A working group was established - with the support of the King Baudouin Foundation and in cooperation with Solvay, IKEA, - BVBA32 –Ann Demeulemeester -Haider Ackermann, Antwerp Management School, Ernst &Young, Studio 100, the Children’s Rights Commissioner of the Flemish Community and others in order to launch and develop the forum. Sustainable development as well as a safe and fair world cannot be achieved without investing, from today, in more child-friendly policies. A greater focus on children and young people not only has a direct impact on their daily lives, but as well on their communities and on their housing and school environment, not only in the short term but equally in the future. “I am looking forward to the panel discussion. Children’s rights are everyone’s business. It is a shared responsibility. There is good progress but more is needed. This forum is important as cross sectoral collaboration and education is key if we want to create true impact. We should never forget tomorrow’s world belongs to today’s children,” said Bhansali.
About the Children’s Rights and Business Principles In March 2012, the “Children’s Rights and Business Principles” (10 principles) were introduced by the UN Global Compact, together with UNICEF and Save the Children. The ten principles constitute important guidelines for companies, on ways to prevent or minimize the negative impact of their activities on children and to maximize their positive impact.
