Press Release: International Gemological Institute (IGI) – a pioneer in diamond and gem testing services with an unmatched school of gemology – today launched its first testing laboratory and education institute in Jaipur, one of the most active and globally recognized gem and jewelry markets.

The city enjoys a high reputation in the jewelry manufacturing trade and is counted among the most crucial centers internationally for cutting and polishing diamonds and colored gemstones, including precious and semi-precious stones. Known as home of the arts, the state of Rajasthan is reputed as India’s highest exporter of artistically cut stones – in fact, this hand-carving technique is one of the most unique in the industry and believed to be everlasting in nature.

Until now, Jaipur-area manufacturers and retailers were serviced through IGI’s New Delhi headquarters. The Institute’s launch in the “Pink City” was a strategic decision in response to the demand and ever-increasing potential of this market. Located on M.I. Road, one of the city’s main thoroughfares, the new independent center will serve clients from Rajasthan and North India.

In addition to the Institute’s full scope of grading reports, IGI’s respected and comprehensive colored stone reports will be a key offering as Jaipur is known for the manufacturing of precious and semi-precious stones. Similarly, the IGI School of Gemology will be pivotal in providing high-quality education to area manufacturers, retailers and jewelry enthusiasts.

The Jaipur laboratory is IGI’s ninth in India, alongside locations in Mumbai, Kolkata, New Delhi, Hyderabad, Surat, Ahmedabad, Thrissur and Chennai. With this addition, IGI not only intends to expand its client service portfolio and reach, but also promote its foremost objective of raising awareness of the importance of gem and jewelry certification.

“We are delighted to expand into an area that holds such a strong, historic connection with the industry,” said IGI India's managing director, Tehmasp Printer. “Jaipur has always been a major market for us, which we have previously served through our New Delhi branch. In recent years, we have contemplated a venture into Jaipur and are pleased it has finally happened.

“We hope the city will welcome us with open arms, and in turn, IGI promises to uphold and maintain our quality standards and quest for perfection,” Printer said.
