RAPAPORT... DGSE Companies, a wholesaler and retailer of jewelry and watches, appointed Nabil J. Lopez as chief financial officer (CFO) following the resignation of C. Brett Burford, the Dallas-based group said in a statement October 29.

Lopez, currently DGSE’s senior vice president and controller, joined the company in September 2012 from Texan jewelry and watch retailer Zale Corporation, where he was director of financial reporting and internal controls. He will also replace Burford on the board of directors, according to the statement.

Lopez played a “critical” role in the rebuilding of DGSE’s accounting, financial reporting and internal control functions since 2012 when the company was required to restate certain financial results due to irregularities, chief executive officer (CEO) and chairman Matthew Peakes said in the statement.

Burford, who was CFO since August 2012, is taking up the same role at prescription eyewear retailer Eyemart Express, which is also headquartered in Texas, according to DGSE.

The appointment comes close on the heels of Peakes’ appointment as CEO and chairman on September 16. He joined DGSE from Dallas-based precious metals company Elemetal, where he was director of business development. He was hired to replace James D. "Dusty" Clem, the company said in a statement September 11.
