Diamond Crushes It in YouTube Test

RAPAPORT... A GIA-graded natural diamond survived an attempt by video
stunt men to crush it with a hydraulic press.
Makers of YouTube channel 'Hydraulic Press VS' show a
GIA-certified round brilliant, 0.25-carat, F-color, SI1-clarity diamond being
placed under a crusher. To their delight, the diamond, which cost them $2,000, is
embedded in the steel below without even a scratch.
They then show footage of a diamond placed at a different angle being crushed to pieces, but it is not clear
whether this is the same stone.
The video, posted June 2016, has attracted more than 11 million
views as at January 2.
While crushing stunts involving hydraulic presses are common
on the web, attempts to destroy a natural diamond are rarer. In May last year,
the Hydraulic Press Channel released a video of a 1.2-carat lab-grown diamond
from Brilliant Earth, a supplier of ethically-sourced natural and synthetic
diamonds, failing to endure a similar pounding. Another video that 'Hydraulic
Press VS' showed was of a $40,000 gold brick that was also put under the
crusher, but the yellow metal suffered only limited damage.
These videos reinforce a well-known scientific fact that mined
diamonds are the hardest naturally occurring materials on Earth.
