RAPAPORT... Kate Donovan will take over as executive director of the Accredited Gemologists Association (AGA) following two years as its director of marketing and business development.

Donovan succeeds Jan Giamanco, who is retiring from the job after two decades, the AGA said last week. She will perform her new and former roles concurrently.

In the new dual position, Donovan will continue to work with the AGA’s board of governors, while also focusing on expanding the group’s global membership, increasing brand awareness, and enhancing member benefits, the AGA noted.

“Kate is a familiar face to many of our members through her tenure as the global alumni manager for GIA [Gemological Institute of America], and her involvement in the gem and mineral world,” said Teri Brossmer, president of the AGA. “Kate’s marketing genius, industry connections, and impeccable reputation will serve AGA well, and we are lucky to have her.”

The AGA is an independent nonprofit organization, founded in 1974 to provide continuing education and promote business standards.
