RAPAPORT... The Israel Diamond Pavilion at the HKTDC Hong Kong
International Diamond, Gem & Pearl Show this March will host 93 companies, the
pavilion’s organizers announced.
There will be a further 10
Israeli exhibitors in other locations of the show, which runs March 1 to 5, the
Israel Diamond Institute Group of Companies (IDI) said in a statement February
24. Six Israeli companies will be exhibiting at the fair for the first time.
Many will also be showing specially designed pieces of diamond jewelry.
The pavilion will measure
1,332 square meters and will be located at the Diamond Hall at the
AsiaWorld-Expo. The IDI will also host three “Find Your Diamond” terminals,
which enable buyers to search a computerized database of goods offered by
Israeli exhibitors in English and Chinese. Buyers will now be able to access it
on their smartphones too.
Hong Kong is Israel’s
second largest market for polished diamonds after the U.S., representing 27
percent of total polished exports in 2015, according to the nation’s Ministry
of Economy. The Israel Diamond Exchange and the Jewellery Manufacturers
Association of Hong Kong signed
a memorandum of understanding at the recent International Diamond Week in
Ramat Gan, pledging to work together in China and Southeast Asia.
“Hong Kong is a very
important market for us since it is the gateway to Asia,” said Shmuel
Schnitzer, chairman of the IDI. “Despite the current slowdown in China, we
believe in the future of this market and we’re there to show our support.”
IDI will again be
participating in four trade shows in Hong Kong this year in March, June,
September and November, Schnitzer added.
