RAPAPORT... Christie’s sold the ‘Aurora Green’ diamond to Chow Tai Fook for $16.8 million (HKD 130 million) at its Hong Kong auction Tuesday, achieving $3.3 million per carat.

The rectangular-cut, 5.03-carat, fancy vivid green, VS2 diamond is the world’s largest natural fancy vivid green diamond, Christie’s said. The selling price and the price per carat set world auction records for a green diamond.

The selling price was towards the lower end of its pre-sale estimate of $16.2 million to $20 million.

Christie’s garnered $60.7 million at the sale, with 72 percent sold by lot and 73 percent sold by value. The company set a pre-sale estimate of about $100 million for the auction.

Sales were $85.5 million including five jewelry items sold for a combined $24.8 million in a separate auction Monday to mark the 30th anniversary of Christie’s in Asia.
