RAPAPORT... Christie’s garnered $8.2 million (GBP 6.5 million) at its Important Jewels auction in London on Tuesday, as a Harry Winston emerald ring fetched $480,675.

The rectangular-cut, 10.23-carat Colombian emerald went to an anonymous buyer for $47,000 per carat — more than five times its high pre-sale estimate, Christie’s said Wednesday. Separately, a cushion-shaped, 50.36-carat Sri Lankan sapphire pendant achieved $434,775, while a Victorian “parure,” or matching set, consisting of a diamond tiara, necklace and earrings, secured a winning bid of $404,175.

“The Victorian diamond star parure demonstrated yet again that jewels fresh to the market with noble provenance make for a winning combination,” said Keith Penton, head of Christie’s London jewels department.

The auction sold 80% by lot and 90% by value.
