The India International Jewellery Show (IIJS) Premiere exhibition will take place in Bengaluru this year, occurring outside of Mumbai for the first time.

The fair, the country’s largest exhibition of gems and jewelry, is now set to run from September 15 to 19, India’s Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) said last week. The annual event was originally scheduled for January in Mumbai but was postponed first to August, and now to September, due to the rise of Covid-19 cases in the country.

All attendees will be required to have received at least one vaccination dose, GJEPC explained. Those who have not had their second shot will also need to take a Covid-19 test.

“Ensuring that all protocols are followed will be our top priority,” noted GJEPC chairman Colin Shah. “We are looking forward to the show and hoping to meet the sourcing needs of buyers for the upcoming festive season.”

The GJEPC decided to move the show out of Mumbai due to venue constraints in the city, it said. The council expects more than 30,000 visitors to attend the event, which will feature nearly 2,500 stalls. It plans to hold a series of road shows in several cities, including Mumbai, Cochin, Hyderabad and Delhi, to promote the exhibition.
