The Jewelers Circle helps estate dealers connect with buyers online. Managing director Marianne Fisher talks about the platform’s features.

What is The Jewelers Circle?

A new online global trading platform and marketplace, The Jewelers Circle was developed in the wake of the global pandemic in order to facilitate secure online sourcing and trading of a wide variety of merchandise among highly vetted jewelry professionals. Launched in October 2020 with over 80 exhibitors, it offers dealers, retailers and trade professionals a digital space to showcase, discover and trade vintage/estate and designer jewelry, loose stones, pearls, watches and other bespoke collectibles. Developed by the trade, for the trade, it utilizes proprietary technology designed with the direct input of the founders of the newly formed International Antique Jewelers Association (IAJA), which is committed to safeguarding the integrity and ethical behavior of the industry.

How does it compare to attending a physical show?

Encompassing the logistics, planning and expenses traditionally associated with attending physical trade events, the platform hosts a four-day online trade show every four to five weeks where retailers and trade professionals are invited to engage with exhibitors who are able to showcase rare finds, new products and collections. The platform allows for the ease and efficiency of exchanging information; you can connect and share immediately. This is what The Jewelers Circle was built for.

Visitors can save items to a personal “watchlist” and connect to exhibitors to discuss and/or purchase pieces. They are encouraged to check in daily to see what is on offer. Exhibitors have access to the platform 24/7; their virtual “booth” is always open. A full-time staff supports subscribers with their specific businesses, and we are in the process of creating tutorial videos to help dealers with best practices to showcase their items. Each show is promoted through trade media — print and online — as well as through social media.

What are the criteria and costs for using the site?

For the safety and security of all users, potential subscribers must submit an application to access the site. All vetted dealers, retailers and trade professionals are welcome to apply; the general public cannot subscribe, view or access the platform. Subscriptions will be considered upon furnishing proof of business, identity, and three trade references. Thanks to sponsorship from IAJA, visitors/retailers pay only $1 annually. Dealers/exhibitors have subscription options depending on the scale of their inventory.

Will it be as effective a tool for smaller estate dealers as it is for larger companies?

The platform is designed to serve both small and large retailers and dealers. In a world of networking and connection, it is a tool that breaks down barriers and connects us all together.

One of my favorite features is our Call Board; any subscriber can post a call, whether they are looking for something in particular or sharing the latest treasure they have obtained. The platform allows each subscriber to search our exhibitors by name, specialization category, location and more. An integrated system instantly shares inquiries between parties for quick and easy communication. Subscribers have options as to their preferred methods of communication.

In 2021, we’ll be launching our live text feature as well.
