RAPAPORT... The Gemological Institute of America (GIA) will offer $2 million in scholarship funds to aspiring students in 2020, it said Tuesday.

Students interested in gemology and jewelry-manufacturing arts programs, distance-education courses and lab classes can apply for funding. The scholarships cover classes at the GIA’s campuses in Bangkok, Carlsbad, Hong Kong, London, Mumbai, New York and Taiwan. The application period will run until March 31.

The GIA has awarded nearly $10 million in scholarships since 2015, funded by the GIA Endowment Fund, as well as by private donors. In 2019, the institute awarded 458 scholarships ranging from $600 to $23,000.
