RAPAPORT... An aquamarine and diamond necklace by Cartier will lead the sale of a selection of Art Deco jewels at Bonhams next month.

The piece, dated from 1940, is set to go under the hammer estimated at GBP 100,000 to GBP 150,000 ($128,290 to $192,435), along with a pair of matching earrings created by the jeweler in 1935. That set is expected to fetch GBP 40,000 to GBP 60,000 ($51,343 to $77,014) at the December 4 London Jewels sale.

“These splendid jewels not only typify the geometric Art Deco style, but are also from the 1930s, the decade Cartier began to create stunning aquamarine jewels that were particularly popular with their British and American clients,” Emily Barber, UK jewelry director for Bonhams, said Monday.

The sale will also include a 1925 Art Deco diamond, enamel and gem-set picture bracelet, attributed to Lacloche Frères. The piece, which features articulated panels, pave-set with diamonds, and overlaid with highly-stylized cherry blossom motifs, black enamel branches, cabochon ruby blooms and cabochon emerald leaves, is estimated at GBP 120,000 to GBP 150,000 ($153,980 to $192,435).

Bonhams will offer one of the largest private collections of Art Deco clocks at the auction, with 22 of the 24 timepieces, dating from 1908 to the end of the Art Deco period, created by Cartier.

Other notable items include a ring with an Ashoka-cut, 6.42-carat, D-color, internally flawless diamond solitaire. The gem, by Boodles, is estimated at GBP 200,000 to GBP 300,000 ($256,610 to $384,915). A step-cut, 20.24-carat Colombian emerald and diamond ring will go under the hammer for GBP 160,000 to GBP 180,000 ($205,362 to $231,032), while a ring containing a step-cut, 8.202-carat Burmese sapphire and diamonds is expected to fetch GBP 150,000 to GBP 200,000 ($192,435 to $256,610).

Bonhams will preview the pieces in Geneva, New York and Hong Kong in November, and in London in December, prior to the sale.
