Kiran Gems opened a new factory in Surat in response to the company’s growth and increased demand.

The 200,000 square-foot facility has capacity for 10,000 diamond cutters. It offers advanced planning and cutting technology for all kinds of rough diamonds, which will then distributed for polishing in other units across Ahmedabad and Surat.

The expansion will make it easier to source the necessary diamonds, especially specific cuts or assortments. It will also lessen the pressure caused by special buying programs from large U.S. companies, said Kiran Gems, which claims to be the world's largest diamond manufacturer.

“The company, over the years, has consistently grown across all the categories leading to the requirement of expansion of its diamond manufacturing facilities,” the company said.

The new factory will support the company's plan to grow sales in new areas and increased demand from existing customers, it added.

Kiran Gems produces 1.6 million carats of polished diamonds per year from more than 5.7 million carat of rough, according to the firm’s entry on the De Beers sightholder directory.
