RAPAPORT... Diamantaires and jewelers discussed ways of creating an ethical diamond supply chain when they gathered at Rapaport’s Town Hall Meeting in Las Vegas.

The forum, which took place at the JCK show on June 3, aimed to develop a more unified approach to source verification. Attendees shared their experiences of working to ensure their products came from trustworthy suppliers, and outlined some of the challenges they had encountered in those efforts.

Moderating the discussion was Rapaport Group Chairman Martin Rapaport, with Dr. Morie Manyeh, Sierra Leone’s minister of mines and mineral resources, participating as well.

Rapaport outlined plans to arrange a trip to Sierra Leone for American jewelers to meet with artisanal miners. He also urged jewelers to travel to Surat, India, to strengthen ties with other sectors along the distribution chain.
