RAPAPORT... Albert Milton, managing director of De Beers’ Botswana joint venture, has died, the company said Friday.

Milton passed away early Friday morning after becoming unwell Thursday night in Johannesburg, where he was admitted to the hospital.

“De Beers is shocked and saddened by the sudden death of Albert Milton,” the miner said. “We extend our deepest condolences to Albert’s family, relatives and friends. Our thoughts are with them at this most difficult time.”

A 25-year veteran of De Beers, Milton was promoted to managing director of Debswana in November 2018. Prior to that, he served as general manager of the company’s Jwaneng mine, and has held management positions at other De Beers projects, including the Orapa, Venetia, Letlhakane and Damtshaa mines.

Lynette Armstrong, Debswana’s chief financial officer, will begin as acting managing director at Debswana immediately, De Beers said.

The company will release further details regarding arrangements for a memorial for Milton shortly.
