RAPAPORT... Marvin Zale, son of Zales  founder Morris Zale, and former vice chairman of the jeweler, has died at 89.

Born in Texas in 1930, Zale grew up in his father’s jewelry business, which was established in 1924. He began his diamond education in Antwerp in 1948, returning to the US to serve in the army. He joined Zales in 1953, working at various stores across the country. In 1958, he moved to New York to lead operations there, which included oversight of all international business, merchandising, diamond buying and cutting.

Zale retired in 1986, after the family sold the company to Peoples Jewellers. He moved to Boca Raton, Florida, dedicating himself to philanthropy and community service. He served as president of the Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County, and delivered Meals on Wheels.

He is survived by Betty, his wife of 66 years; his children, David, Margie, Stanley and Janet and their spouses; and 11 grandchildren, as well as two siblings.
