Alrosa: Diamond Inspector Russian mining giant Alrosa’s Diamond Inspector is a portable verification machine with a $5,799 price tag. The device can test stones from 0.03 to 10 carats in any shape, with a color range from D to J, and can distinguish natural diamonds from lab-grown and simulants. It has a 96.4% diamond accuracy rate — the percentage of diamonds it correctly categorizes as such — and can test up to 24 stones per hour.

De Beers: DiamondViewA desktop instrument, the DiamondView is typically used to examine stones that have been referred for further testing, and requires an operator to interpret the results. The device can check loose stones and some mounted ones between 0.05 and 10 carats in all colors and shapes. DiamondView can differentiate between natural and lab-grown stones, but does not detect simulants. Priced at $35,000, it can test up to 112 stones per hour and has a 100% accuracy rate.

DRC Techno: J Detect 9000 This desktop diamond verification system tests loose and mounted goods to determine if they are natural or lab-grown, but does not detect simulants. The J Detect 9000 can recognize stones over 0.003 carats, in colors from D to K. It has a diamond accuracy rate of 81.4%, can test up to 679 stones per hour, and costs $9,999.

Presidium: ARIARI is a portable verification system for loose and mounted D to J stones weighing 0.02 carats and above. The instrument can identify natural and synthetic diamonds, as well as moissanite, but not other simulants. It can test up to 185 stones per hour, with a diamond accuracy rate of 95.5% and a false positive rate of 6%. It sells for approximately $1,335.

De Beers: SynthDetectSynthDetect can distinguish both loose and mounted natural diamonds from synthetics and simulants. The desktop machine, which requires an operator to interpret the test results, works with stones between 0.001 and 100 carats, ranging in color from D to J. It has a diamond accuracy rate of 99.3%, can test up to 583 stones per hour, and sells for $18,500.

DRC Techno: J SmartA desktop system, J Smart identifies loose or mounted D to K stones of 0.003 carats and above. It is designed to separate synthetic and natural diamonds. Valued at $22,499, the machine can test 1,103 stones per hour, with an accuracy rate of 88% and a false positive rate of 10.6%.

OGI: Diatrue CSThe Diatrue CS is a desktop instrument that separates loose and mounted natural diamonds from lab-grown and simulants. The system works with D to J stones of 0.005 carats and over, checking up to 201 stones per hour. Presidium: Synthetic Diamond Screener II This portable and desktop-mountable system can test stones of any shape as long as they have a flat surface. The device can distinguish between lab-grown and natural D to J diamonds of 0.02 to 10 carats, but cannot identify simulants. It has a diamond accuracy rate of 84.5% and a 0% false positive rate. It can test up to 240 stones per hour and costs approximately $645.

SmartPro: Screen-1The Screen-1 is a portable device for loose and mounted D to J stones between 0.01 and 12 carats. It can separate natural from lab-grown diamonds, but does not identify simulants. Priced at $639, the machine can test up to 283 stones per hour. It has a diamond accuracy rate of 89.5% and a false positive rate of 0%.
