RAPAPORT... Christie’s New York scheduled its magnificent jewels sale for October 15, highlighting a trio of colored diamonds of superior quality, depth of color, tone and saturation. Leading the auction (pictured in order) is an 8.77-carat, rectangular‐cut fancy intense pink diamond ring with presale estimate of $5.5 million to $6.5 million, a 3.81-carat, cushion‐cut fancy vivid blue diamond ring with a presale estimate of $2.5 million to $3.5 million and a 5.13-carat, square‐cut fancy vivid yellow diamond ring with a presale estimate of $200,000 to $300,000, all of which have been consigned by gem collectors. diamond auction

The auction includes 400 lots and Christie's anticipates the sale will achieve at least $40 million.

Rahul Kadakia, the head of jewelry for Christie’s Americas and Switzerland, said,  “It was an unprecedented season for Christie’s this spring, having achieved three world record breaking diamond sales in New York, Geneva and Hong Kong. For the first major fall sale in New York, our team of jewelry specialists have traveled the globe to gather the finest quality diamonds, emeralds, rubies, sapphires and rare vintage jewels from notable estates and private collections. In anticipation of a continued strong market, we look forward to offering collectors the best in the world of jewelry auctions.”

The sale features the collection of The Honorable Noreen Stonor Drexel of Newport, Rhode Island, which offers fine examples of David Webb jewels from the 1960s and 1970s. Highlights of this collection include a pair of David Webb diamond ear pendants, an emerald and diamond ring and an emerald, diamond and gold brooch --all circa 1965-- as well as a pair of diamond and coral enamel ear pendants (circa 1967 to 1970) and a diamond ring, circa 1970.

Another private collection features a historic “Mystery‐Set” sapphire, diamond and colored diamond Argentine flag brooch formerly from the property of Eva Peron and designed by Van Cleef & Arpels. The brooch was last sold at auction in April 1998 after a fierce bidding war for $992,500, according to Christie's, which assigned a presale estimate of $300,000 to $500,000.

From the Diana Dollar Knowles Collection, Christie's will auction a 17.00-carat, F, rectangular-cut diamond with a presale estimate of $500,000 to $700,000 and a pave-set diamond link necklace by Boucheron with a presale estimate of $80,000 to $120,000. Topping off the Knowles collection is a 16.21-carat, I, rectangular-cut diamond ring  by Lorraine Schwartz with a presale estimate of $300,000 to $500,000.
