RAPAPORT... Christie's concluded its Paris jewels sale, which achieved $8.2 million and was 83 percent sold by lot. The top lot was a 10.93-carat, D, VVS2, type IIa rectangular-cut diamond ring that sold well above estimate for $1 million or $91,523 per carat. A natural pearl, diamond and platinum and gold necklace sold for more than twice its presale estimate at $918,519. Also, a velvet Kashmir sapphire, diamond and platinum ring by Chaumet realized a sale price of $763,046 or almost three times the high-end of estimate.

Marie-Laurence Tixier, the head of Christie's Paris jewelry department, observed that this sale total was the second highest for the department to date.

“Bidders were mainly present on the telephone as well as a strong online participation, with 75 bidders registered. The 12 lots coming from the property of a French princely family exceeded all expectations, reaching a combined outstanding total of $2,402,379 (EUR 1,764,250),” Tixier said.
