Alrosa has unearthed a 98.8-carat, gem-quality diamond from its new Verkhne-Munskoye mine in Yakutia, it said Wednesday.

The stone was retrieved from the Zapolyarnaya pipe, one of four kimberlites that are located at the site. It has a visible yellow shade, Alrosa noted.

“This is the second major find since the launch of the deposit last October,” said Evgeny Agureev, director of the United Selling Organization at Alrosa. “Despite some inclusions, it is clear that this is a high-quality stone.”

Alrosa unearthed a 51.49-carat, gem-quality diamond at the site shortly after its launch, it said.
