A London court has ruled that Nirav Modi should stand trial, paving the way for the UK to extradite the infamous jewelry tycoon to India for trial, Reuters reported.

“I am satisfied that there is evidence upon which [Modi] could be convicted in relation to the conspiracy to defraud the [Punjab National Bank],” District Judge Samuel Goozee of Westminster Magistrates’ Court said in a judgment Thursday, according to the news service. The case will now go to UK Home Secretary Priti Patel, who will decide whether to repatriate Modi, Reuters added.

Modi fled India before details of his alleged multibillion-dollar fraud of Punjab National Bank emerged in January 2018. He was arrested in London in March 2019.
