The emerald effect

The striking interplay between this green gem and diamonds makes for a vibrant, elegant look.

By Rachael Taylor

Diamonds and emeralds are a classic combination, with the glittering clarity of the former setting off the deep green color of the latter.

This verdant shade is symbolic of new growth, a sentiment worthy of today’s emerald and diamond jewelry, which is best served with yellow gold. Alternative cuts such as sugarloaf, slices, tripaches and tumbles, set beside brilliant-cut diamonds, create a balance of clarity and perfectly imperfect inclusions.

For an old-world touch that reminds us artisans have been pairing these gems for millennia, some jewelers are turning to the understated sparkle of rose-cut diamonds, which work exceptionally well.
