RAPAPORT... The Dubai Diamond Exchange (DDE) will host a seminar Tuesday aimed at raising awareness of financing options and how Dubai’s financial sector can support the industry.

The second Dubai Diamond Finance Seminar (DDFS) will be held May 17 at the Almas Conference Centre in the emirate and will coincide with the second day of the World Diamond Congress in Dubai.

Peter Meeus, chairman of the DDE, will host the seminar. Speakers will include Rajiv Jain, ABN Amro’s head of United Arab Emirates diamond and jewelry clients; Biju Patnaik, head of gem and jewelry at IndusInd Bank Limited; Davy Blommaert, unit head for precious metals and diamonds at the National Bank of Fujairah; and Alain Vandenborre, executive chairman and founder of the Singapore Diamond Investment Exchange.

“Securitisation, credit insurance and asset-backed trade finance are new ways of bringing diamond financing to the next level,” said Meeus. “Dubai is one of the few places that has already made this option available to market participants – one of many reasons why we want to see how we can further build on this with representatives of the worldwide trade to explore financing methods.”
