RAPAPORT... Phillips has appointed Paul Redmayne head of private jewelry sales as part of its efforts to expand its jewelry department internationally, the auction house said Monday.

Redmayne, who will be responsible for managing relationships with top jewelry collectors around the world and fostering private sales, joined Phillips from Bonhams, where he was the head of sales for jewelry. He is the fourth hire the auction house has made from Bonhams in the last two years, beginning with Susan Abeles, who was appointed head of jewelry for the Americas in 2018. Graeme Thompson, worldwide head of jewelry, joined in April, while Alexis Vourvoulis started in August. In total, Phillips has added seven jewelry experts since the beginning of 2018.

Before his time at Bonhams, Redmayne was the founder of a luxury and retail consultancy company in Hong Kong, focusing on advising high-net-worth individuals on strategy and brand entry into Asia. He also worked for Harry Winston, Piaget, Cartier and Moussaieff.

“Private sales are an increasingly important part of [our] business and Paul is well-suited to take on this important role, with more than two decades of experience in the jewelry industry,” said Thompson. “Combined with his retail experience and exceptional track record serving clients, his business acumen perfectly complements our growing team of specialists around the world.”
