On May 15, Christie’s Geneva will auction an extraordinary, 101.73-carat, D, flawless, type IIa pear-shaped diamond, which originate from a 236-carat rough diamond that was recovered from the Jwaneng mine in Botswana. The stone took 21 months to polish, according to Christie's, and the successful buyer will be able to christen this rare diamond with a name. 
Rahul Kadakia, the head of jewelry for Christie's Switzerland and Americas, said, ''Just as a great artist is able to see a masterpiece in a block of marble, a perfect diamond is the result of the skill and vision of a master cutter who is able to uncover beauty from a rough gem. ''This diamond is in its scale, quality and rarity one of the most beautiful ‘white’ diamonds Christie’s has ever had the honor of offering for sale,'' he said. Christie's noted that the current auction record for a colorless diamond was set in November when it auctioned the 76.02-carat, cushion-shaped Archduke Joseph Diamond for $21.5 million in Geneva.
