RAPAPORT... U.S. Antique Shows reported a 3 percent increase in attendance to its New York Antique Jewelry & Watch Show, which took place this week in Manhattan. Organizers enlisted more than 100 dealers showcasing diamonds, one-of-a-kind antique jewelry and watch collections.

Buyers at this event snapped up  statement pieces  and colorful jewelry, which was much different  from the traditional gold and diamond jewelry that were popular at past shows, according to the organizers. Layering jewelry that uses several items such as pendants and metal chains were also hot items with buyers.

“It was clear from the increased attendance numbers on opening day that both consumers and retailers continue to find great value in this show,” said Dan Darby, the group show director for U.S. Antique Shows and vice president of GLM. “A sure indicator that buying on the show floor was strong is that 85 percent of our dealers renewed their booths for our 2014 show.”

Exhibitor Gus Davis of Camilla Dietz Bergeron Ltd. said, “Even with the challenging economic conditions we’re experiencing today, it was great seeing buyers at the show with a distinct interest in antique and estate jewelry and attendance remaining strong.”

U.S. Antique Shows will host the Miami Beach Jewelry & Watch Show next, at the Miami Beach Convention Center from October 25 to 27.
