RAPAPORT... The Birmingham Assay Office scheduled its seventh annual Great Debate for International Jewellery London with a host of panelists who will explore sustainability and ethics in the jewelry sector. The event takes place on September 2 at 12 p.m. in the Inspirations Theatre, Earls Court.
The Great Debate 2013 will highlight how the fashion and grocery industries have managed challenges in adopting ethics and a sustainable supply chain as examples the jewelry industry could follow. Daniela Nordmeyer from Monsoon Accessorize and Alan Frampton from Cred Jewellery and a former supplier of fresh produce from Africa to major supermarkets in the U.K., will share their knowledge, experiences, inspiration and enthusiasm for this important topic.
Michael Allchin, the CEO of The Birmingham Assay Office, will direct the audience to draw parallels with the jewelry industry and consider options for what more must done.
The debate is a joint initiative between The Birmingham Assay Office and Reed Exhibitions. The event focuses on ethical, social, humanitarian and environmental issues in the jewelry industry and aims to share experiences, to inform, to stimulate debate, provoke thought and to prompt action.
In addition, Catherine Sproule, the chief operations officer of the Responsible Jewellery Council, plans to make a special announcement for the industry at the start of the Great Debate, according to The Assay Office.
