Christie's Geneva Sale Highlights a Rare Emerald, Diamond Necklace

RAPAPORT... Christie's Geneva will auction jewelry from the collection of Bolivian tycoon Simón Itturi Patiño at its upcoming magnificent jewels sale in Switzerland on November 12, 2013. In addition, the sale highlights include jewelry from the private collection of Hélène Rochas, the wife of renowned French fashion designer Marcel Rochas.
 Top lots from Patiño include an emerald and diamond necklace by Cartier (pictured) estimated to fetch between $7 million and $10 million. The necklace was originally designed by Cartier London in 1937 following the jeweler's acquisition of a rare 45-carat emerald that belonged to Queen Eugenia Victoria of Spain. The necklace initially suspended the Andean cross, which was carved from one single gem and previously belonged to Queen Isabel II of Spain as well as to Empress Eugenie of France. Cartier selected over 100 carats of the best emeralds available at the time to create this necklace, which Patiño bought for his wife in January 1938. Following Van Cleef & Arpels' acquisition of the Andean cross, the necklace was shortened to create a pair of matching earrings which are estimated to fetch between $400,000 to $600,000.
Another top lot is a cushion-shaped 32.65-carat, F diamond ring by Chaumet with a presale estimate of $2.2 million to $2.8 million.
The sale also features 18 pieces from Rochas' collection. Top lots include a refined mystery-set ruby magnolia brooch by Van Cleef & Arpels and a rare, bold tiger shoulder brooch by René Boivin. Both pieces have a presale estimate of $190,000 to $255,000.
