Operations Commence at Lace Diamond Mine

RAPAPORT... Mining resumed
at DiamondCorp’s Lace mine in South Africa after operations were stopped while
government investigated an incident that injured a worker.
A miner's
assistant suffered contusions and four cracked ribs when explosive misfires
were being made safe. DiamondCorp instructed all miner’s assistants to attend
refresher training in the handling and charging up of explosives.
South
Africa’s Department of Mineral Resources (DMR) carried out the probe on July 15
and this week gave permission for an
immediate resumption of underground mining, DiamondCorp said.
The suspension
means DiamondCorp will not reach its target of 30,000 tonnes of ore in July. It
now expects to achieve that rate in August, while making up this month’s shortfall
in September. There is no material financial impact as a result of the
temporary suspension, the miner said.
