Duneier, founder of family-owned jewelry company Clyde Duneier Inc., passed
away aged 88.
During
his career, Duneier emerged as a pioneer in the industry’s charitable efforts,
leading his New York-based company to establish the Jewelers Charity Fund in 1983,
initially as a fundraising effort for the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation.
He
subsequently worked with Nate Light, former chief executive officer of Signet
Jewelers, to launch the ‘Party with a Purpose’ annual fundraising event. This
led to the formation of Jewelers for Children, a charity that has donated more
than $51 million to programs benefiting children whose lives have been affected
by illness, abuse or neglect, Duneier’s family said.
He was
also responsible for the formation of The Plumb Club, a collection of leading
companies from diverse parts of the jewelry, diamond and watch industries.
Duneier
passed away on December 18 and is survived by his wife, Estelle, three sons and respective
daughters-in-law, four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
